Yaaaasss!

One of the Christmas presents that I got this year is something that I’ve wanted for well over a decade….a spinning wheel!  Dan went above and beyond and got me an Ashford!


In order to get a feel for the wheel as well as various fibers, I decided to break out the many samples that I’ve collected...

 
 
I am amazed at how much more simple spinning is on a wheel rather than a drop spindle. 
 

 
 
That’s not to say that there isn't a learning curve.  The quality of my wheel spinning doesn’t yet match that of the drop spindle…but I’ll get there!

A friend of mine is having a baby...I almost never go to baby showers and I've never thrown one... until yesterday!  It was so much fun getting everything ready! I didn't want there to be too much of a theme but I did want something really special for the invitations.  I made a booklet style invitation with a children's classic on each page and sewed the pages onto the back cardstock.     I never do "girly" things and I took this as an opportunity to use predominately feminine colors. There are white Christmas lights strung underneath the table and I LOVE how it turned out!         Mason jar glasses with a simple ribbon bow and a paper straw.       The curtain is white crepe paper streamers that I stuck fabric and paper flowers to. I LOVE Felting!

I needed a cover to put a Kindle in and I had the idea to make one with felt…now that I’ve tried it I’m hooked! I first knit a big stretchy piece on circular needles. You can see how large it is: Then I threw it in the washer for 3 cycles and like magic...it felted! It shrunk, got really thick and isn't stretchy at all: It was pretty cool to see the total change in texture… here is an up close look at the knitting: and here it is felted: Once it was dry I cut off a small part to make a side flap and sewed some velcro onto the inside of it and on the outer edge. Then I added some vintage buttons and finally I needle felted a design onto it:

Fun!!!

My friend Katie has two amazing kids and I love them like crazy!  I wanted to make them some softies and knew right away that I would do a pink bear for her little girl.  I wanted to do either a lizard or a dragon for her little guy but he couldn't choose between them so we went with both :-) All patterns are available on Ravelry   Her son did the honors of naming each animal.  The bear is Girl Bear, the dragon is Spikes, and the Chameleon is Corndog LOL! Girl bear looks different now than pictured because I chickened out about using the plastic eyes for a baby... She's not as cute with the crocheted eyes but definitely safer!
