Boy Rooms

We are loving every part of settling into this new place!  One of the most important things to us throughout the process is that the boys feel like this is THEIR home.  My Christmas gift to them was to decorate each of their rooms so that it truly feels as though it belongs to them.  After they opened their presents we brought them each to their rooms… their reaction made every bit of it worthwhile!

Merry Christmas!

Our first Christmas in OUR home!  I can’t tell you how fortunate I feel that I finally have a place to call my own… one to decorate every year for the holidays!

Raised Beds!

I've spent the past several weeks working on the garden space.  Because we live on a mountain, most of what we grow is going to need raised beds.  The previous owners had a pile of old deck boards in one corner of the yard and I decided to use them to build some beds.

The garden space was basically just a pile of clay and rocks that were left when the storm shelter was put in.

I shoveled and raked until the area was flatish and as level as the gigantic rocks in the ground would allow. I saved many of the rocks and was able to reuse them to level the bottom of the beds.

Clearly there is more cleanup to be done... and there wont be plants in there this year... but spring will come before I know it!

Painted and Unpacked

I painted out Dan’s office as a surprise for him and we worked on the living room together.  I’ve always wanted a wood burning fireplace with built-in bookshelves and now I have it… I’m feeling very thankful!

New House Happiness!

I’m happy to announce that we bought a house!!!  We’ve spent the past couple weeks packing and cleaning and several days painting and moving… Each of the boys will be able to have their own bedroom for when they come visit.  There’s an office for Dan and a fantastic studio in the yard for me!

Stick a Needle in It!

It's been a while since I've done any needle felting and I've been bitten by the bug again!  I've been seeing some great needle felting with zipper accents and I had to give that a shot.

It was far easier than I thought it would be and it's a great way to reuse old zippers!

I haven't felted softies before but was inspired to give it a shot.  Owls seem to be a recurring theme in our lives lately so I made this little guy :-)

Hot Pads...

I've been on a pot holder kick lately...Or pot cloths as Dan calls them :-)

When making hotpads you can go from crafty girl to crazy cat lady with a quickness.  I often fine myself walking that fine line... I try to combat this by using edgier designs or non traditional colors.

I recently succumbed to the vintage charm of these hot pads.  They were quick to make and even though they're a little kitschy I really like them

Try Something New...

Quite a while back I had a friend give me some beautiful handspun yarn with matching beads.  I wanted to do something special with it and finally decided on a project that I wanted to make for a friend.  My friend Amy is really into vintage things, deco, clothes, etc and I wanted to make something that would have classic elements.

I practiced the beading and broomstick lace.  Looked at countless bracelet patterns and came up with this:
