An Empty Nest...

I'm impatiently awaiting the arrival of our chicks!!!  I was able to get their coop finished up today though! 

It’s double walled and insulated with expanding foam spray.  The roof is a clear corrugated PVC sheet.  The tile was apparently a remnant of a previous project because they were laying in a pile behind the studio when we moved in. The tile will protect the floor as well as make it easier to clean.   The nest box was made from some leftover plywood and the roosts are the old stair rails from in the house.

Tiramisu For Keressa

One of my favorite people in the world, who happens to be a coworker, really loves tiramisu.  She'll be leaving us soon so I thought I'd ply her with her favorite treats to make her want to stay! This was my first attempt at tiramisu...It WILL be happening again!  Easy to make and absolutely delicious!  Tiramisu 4 large eggs, separated 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar 16 ounces mascarpone cheese 1-1/2 cups brewed coffee 1/2 cup dark rum ( I used The Kracken ...because it's amazing!) 40 store-bought ladyfingers 1 cup heavy cream cocoa powder bittersweet chocolate In a large bowl, beat egg yolks and cup of sugar until light and fluffy. Stir in mascarpone until incorporated. Whisk egg whites until soft peaks form. Fold in beaten egg whites into mascarpone mixture. In a small bowl combine coffee and rum. Dip ladyfingers into coffee-rum mixture and lay in rows in the bottom of a 9-by-13-inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone cream on top. Make one more layer of ladyfinge

Dining Room...

We've slowly been chipping away at our dining room to-do list.  Thankfully...it's finally done!  You can see that the wallpaper was all 80s!  What you can't tell from this picture is that the chair rail....was installed upside down!   We removed the chair rail and the wallpaper.  Painted the walls a much richer color and did the trim in an oatmeal color rather than leaving the original wood.  Plantation blinds were a real upgrade from the previous plastic miniblinds.       The change with the greatest impact, at least in my mind, is the light fixture!  The one that was here when we moved in was oh so dated as well as being broken.     We replaced it with a beautiful fixture that fits our style... and works!        Please excuse the glare in this picture...it is out of control.  Anyway, the interior wall is really large and after we got it painted it was in desperate need of something.     We pulled some cigar boxes from my coll
