Everything is in the ground!!!     I'm hopeful that the weather cooperates this year!  I was happy to see that almost all of the medicinal herbs that I planted last year are still thriving :-)

Metal Tape is AWESOME!

Image
A while back I saw this totally badass tutorial on how to use metal foil tape in mixed media projects. It worked on my mind for a while and finally I just had to try it.  I am SO glad that I did!  I have a love for boxes and tins so I decided to start there rather than a card.  This is how it turned out:  Freakin cool, right!?!   I enjoyed the process so much that I can’t seem to stop making things using this technique!     I was really wanting to do an aviation themed box for our living room since we have a really cool plane picture and a full sized propeller on the wall.  I used the Silhouette Cameo to  make the layers of this propeller:   I added some metal embellishments...   I made the plane on the Silhouette as well.  Do you see that copper dome in the corner?  That's a penny that I shaped in the doming block that I got as a Christmas gift.     The end results: ...

My friend Meg sells boutique. clothing .  She often donates a percentage of her sales to a local charitable interest and she treats her customers with a special gift each month...So yeah, she's fantastic!  Because she was at Katie's babyshower  and enjoyed the body scrub/moisturizer party favor, she ordered several of them to give as her customer appreciation gifts. I wanted them to be somewhat special so I made these custom cardstock boxes to package them in.

A coworker brought her sugar glider to work and AWWW.... He absolutely brought a smile to our faces.  Meet Kiko!     Some interesting facts about sugar gliders: The sugar glider is a marsupial, like a kangaroo or wombat. Sugar gliders only weigh about 4 ounces as full-grown adults. Sugar gliders are able to glide over 150 feet. The gliding membranes of a sugar glider ( called patagium) are located from his wrists to his ankles and open up to slow his descent, much like a parachute. Sugar gliders, like kangaroos, have a pouch where baby gliders, called joeys, live for 60-70 days. At around 4 months of age, joeys are able to survive on their own outside the pouch. In the wild, sugar gliders live in trees, and rarely, if ever, touch the ground. Sugar gliders nest in holes in old growth trees and mark their nests with urine. In the wild, sugar gliders can live in groups of up to 15-30...

Fingers Crossed...

Well, the seeds are in...now we wait for growth.  I'm doing things a bit differently this year and it's mildly nerve-wracking... I'm not planting annual vegetables.  That means no tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, etc...  The reason I've made this decision is that I have a lot of landscaping that needs to be done and I want that accomplished through perennial herbs, flowers, and food.  In order to do that economically I need to sacrifice having a traditional garden this year so that I can utilize that space in growing out these little guys so that they can be transplanted elsewhere.       So....This summer will see me at the Farmer's Market more than in previous years but I believe it will be worth it!
