A Crafty Yarn

The chicks are growing and are now spending a lot of time free ranging with the rest of the ladies! 

Every once in a while one of the hens goes broody.  They sit on their eggs and are determined to have babies. They get VERY cranky and will peck at you and raise a fuss if you try to move them or "their" eggs.   There's a pretty involved process to go through to get them past this but once they've been broody, it's likely to happen again.  One of my blue laced girls has been broody several times and I couldn't stand to disappoint her again so I bought some fertilized eggs for her to hatch.   Every day waiting for that tiny peep peep peep of chicks has been agony!   The wait ended this week!  I came home from work the other day and when I opened up the door to check on her THIS is what I saw! Do you see it??  That tiny baby right next to her momma!  It didn't take long for the others to hatch and now the coop is full of feathers and baby chirps! 

A coworker brought her sugar glider to work and AWWW.... He absolutely brought a smile to our faces.  Meet Kiko!     Some interesting facts about sugar gliders: The sugar glider is a marsupial, like a kangaroo or wombat. Sugar gliders only weigh about 4 ounces as full-grown adults. Sugar gliders are able to glide over 150 feet. The gliding membranes of a sugar glider ( called patagium) are located from his wrists to his ankles and open up to slow his descent, much like a parachute. Sugar gliders, like kangaroos, have a pouch where baby gliders, called joeys, live for 60-70 days. At around 4 months of age, joeys are able to survive on their own outside the pouch. In the wild, sugar gliders live in trees, and rarely, if ever, touch the ground. Sugar gliders nest in holes in old growth trees and mark their nests with urine. In the wild, sugar gliders can live in groups of up to 15-30...

It is entirely possible that Harley believes he is a dog... he LOVES playing fetch!

Harley brings me so much happiness!  His crazy antics make me laugh...and I love when he falls asleep on me. Overall he's a really laid-back cat...he has moments where he's a holy terror but he doesn't get stressed out about being handled...and he loves getting snuggled!  

I got a kitten yesterday!  He's absolutely adorable! I'm still working on a name for him...

We found out a few weeks ago that Jake has cancer. We went through some sad days where he was feeling really poorly but he seems to have bounced back for the time being. This picture is so great because Lola has no tolerance for Jake...doesn't like him to be in her space AT ALL. But since he's been sick she is much more patient with him...I just think that's really special.

  A picture to share...   This is what it looks like when I blog...Jake loves to lay his head on my computer anytime it's open...actually he likes to lay on top of the computer...but ya gotta draw the line somewhere! Ummm....so yeah...awkward....that is indeed Duct Tape holding my computer together....I've been looking for a new one....I just get so attached...

2008 was a big year for Jake and Lola!

My sweet boy Jake had to spend today at the vet's. He needed to undergo general anesthesia to get some x-rays and get his teeth scaled and a few removed. This wouldn't really be newsworthy with another dog but since Jake is a bulldog there is a greater risk of complications under anesthesia....Thankfully he came out of it just fine!!! YAY! I was trying not to worry but it had me on edge! The vet told us that he has hip dysplasia in both hips. He also had to get 3 of his little tiny front teeth pulled because they had some issues. Jake is the best dog ever... He is kind and caring with Lola: He has a gentle spirit: He Even takes time to stop and smell the flowers:

These two are the shiny parts of my every day.....
